the Southern Atherton Tablelands.
This area was described by Sir David Attenborough as " A portrait
of Australia's Garden of Eden ". PLUS the re-discovered Spanish
Castles in the Rainforest of Paronella Park, and the Aboriginal
myth-surrounded Babinda Boulders, which hosts undoubtedly one of
Northern Queensland's most dense diverse rainforest jungles where
we spot the elusive platypus.
Tour : "Tablelands - Waterfalls - Spanish Castle"
Touring the magnificent Southern Atherton Tablelands
, it's World Heritage Rainforest, waterfalls and crater
lakes district, situated over 2,400 feet above sea level, and
Paronella Park (Spanish Castle ruins)
- one man's inspiration and dream must be seen to be believed.
The Atherton Tablelands
The Atherton Tablelands, a land rich in Rainforest,
Waterfalls, Wildlife, (extinct) Volcanic Crater lakes, agriculture
and more, with a volcanic history reaching back 420 million years,
with 62 eruption sites uncovered. Today it is one of the most beautiful
natural areas of Australia.
Northern Experience shows you the "non-commercial"
side of North Queensland including a very interesting lunch stop,
The "Roundyard Restaurant" where we enjoy a two-course hot lunch.
The "Roundyard" is an attraction in itself - just imagine walking
into a cowboy western movie, and this will give you an idea what
to expect!
Paronella Park Heritage Gardens
The Australian "Spanish Castles" in the Rainforest!
Used as a movie location for " Sniper " and " Traps
", and featured on " Burkes Backyard ", " Who Dares Wins ", " Getaway
", " The Great Outdoors " and " Totally Wild ", Paronella Park is
a must see! And what better way to get there than with Northern
Experience Tours ? We include a guided walk of the Park as part
of the tour, giving you a sense of the achievement this unusual
Park represents. Paronella Park was built by a Spanish immigrant,
Jose Paronella, in the early 1900's . Some say he was a man with
an inspiration and a dream. Today most people are surprised to find
there really are Spanish Castles in a Rainforest on 14 acres of
land next to the mammoth Mena Creek Falls. Our tour is the only
one offering private, guided tours of the pleasure gardens as part
of our day-tour with the Park's curator and owner, where we discover
the story and tragedy of one of the most unique places in the world.
Paronella Park is a place guaranteed to surprise!
Lake Barrine - Remnants of a Volcanic Crater
Lake Barrine is set high on the Tablelands and provides
an idyllic location for your Devonshire Tea, and observing the flora
and fauna. You can also optionally join the Rainforest Wildlife
Cruise, swim, or go for a rainforest walk to the 1,000-year-old
Kauri Pines. This area is described by Sir David Attenborough as
"Australia's Garden of Eden".
